Skin Cancer Care & Treatment
Skin cancer is an increasing health concern as climate changes. The Doctors at DCMC have undertaken special training in skin cancer detection and treatment. Regular examination of, total body and of lesions of concern, photographic examination using DermEngine, the most advanced cloud based analytic software, together with targeted excision, forms the basis of DCMC skin care. The base for determining fees depends on the type of excision and the histopathological diagnosis. The charges include an initial treatment room fee and the procedure fee will generally follow when the pathology results arrive. Procedure fees are may vary from Doctor to Doctor as the billing is at their discretion.
Surgical skin cancer treatment is no bulk-billed and will always result in an out of pocket expense decided the by the treating doctor based on the site of the lesion, complexity of the procedure and finally the histopathological diagnosis. Thus, the same procedure may be billed as a process of these factors and on the level of training, qualifications in skin cancer treatment and experience of the treating doctor. It should be appreciated that general practice charges much lower than those charged by private plastic surgeons and the waiting time for public hospital skin cancer treatment is long. Patients will be made aware of the out of pocket expense before any procedures are performed.
